What: Little Rock Residents will get their “World Changed” By Youth Volunteers
When: Tuesday, July 17th - 11:30 a.m.
Where: #17 Avon Place
Even in the shade, ripping off old roofing tiles and painting houses can be a dirty, sweaty business. But there's something about being a World Changer that makes that type of work fun. World Changers helps cities across North America alleviate substandard housing and this month they will be in Little Rock.
19,000 teens will volunteer with the World Changers Organization this summer and about 200 will come to Little Rock. The faith-based organization started in 1990. Since then, it has connected teenagers with thousands of service projects throughout the United States.
Here in the Capital City, this annual event is made possible through a partnership with the City of Little Rock’s Department of Housing and Neighborhood Programs and World Changers. This is the group's 9th year in Little Rock, and this time, 14 crews are roofing and/or painting 15 local work sites. Eligible homeowners applied in the fall of 2012 to be on this summer’s World Changer’s agenda. The criteria to be eligible includes:
- Must be at least 62 years of age or disabled
- Must own and occupy the home
- Must meet the income guidelines for the program
On Tuesday, July 17th at 11:30 a.m., City of Little Rock and World Changers will kick off this year’s week of home improvements.
