Special Projects

The Special Projects Division is housed within the Little Rock City Manager's Office. This Division has the responsibility of overseeing many of the long-term projects affecting the relationship between City Government and the community. Major projects assigned to the Special Projects Division include the following:

The 2004 Bond Issue

Former Mayor Jim Dailey and the Little Rock City Board of Directors appointed eleven (11 members to the Project Progress Committee. This citizen-based committee was charged with monitoring the progress of all bond projects and was made up of a representative from each of the City's seven (7) Wards and a person to represent the interest of the Parks & Recreation and the Little Rock Zoo. A CPA, an engineer, and a telecommunications representative was also named to the committee. In addition, two (2) members of the Little Rock City Board of Directors served on this committee.

Central High Integration 50th Anniversary

Former Mayor Jim Dailey and the Little Rock City Board of Directors named eighteen (18) Little Rock citizens to serve on the Central High Integration 50th Anniversary Commission. This Commission was charged with the responsibility of planning major events to mark the 50th Anniversary of the Little Rock Nine integrating Little Rock Central High School in 1957. Co-chairs for this commission were Virgil Miller of Metropolitan National Bank and Nancy Rousseau, who is principal of Little Rock Central High School. The commemoration was held in September 2007.

Vision Little Rock

Vision Little Rock was a community goal setting process that involved more than 300 citizen volunteers. In 2000, former Mayor Jim Dailey and the Little Rock City Board of Directors determined that the City would benefit from a follow-up evaluation of FUTURE Little Rock, which was implemented in 1992. A sixty (60)-member Vision Team was appointed and a diverse group of citizens were appointed to thirteen (13) workgroups and charged with setting the direction of Little Rock's future for the next ten (10) years. From this process thirty-three (33) goals were presented and adopted by the Little Rock City Board of Directors in January 2002. Subsequently, a scorecard has been developed to assist with monitoring these goals. An update on the status of the goals is released annually.
